Exhausted

  • 3 Needs and a Practice

    1- The Need for Rest

    Luke 8:22-25 (NLT)

The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”

Sleep is a cure for exhaustion.

    How can you sleep better?

How could you take a nap?

    2- The Need for Receiving

    John 4:5-8 (MEV)

So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being exhausted from His journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

A woman of Samaria came there to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

He was exhausted (other translations say “wearied” or “tired” or “worn out”)

Jesus got so exhausted that he sat down to rest. Will you?

Jesus got so exhausted that he asked others for help. Will you?

    3- The Need for Replenishment

    In Solitude:

    Mark 1:32-35 (NIV)

That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

    With Others:

    Mark 6:30-31 (NLT)

The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

Come with me by yourselves to a place where we can be alone, and you can get some rest. (CJB)

Come with me. We will go to a quiet place to be alone. There we will get some rest.” (ERV)

Come off by yourselves; let’s take a break and get a little rest. (MSG)

Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest a while (MEV)

‘All right, it’s time for a break. Come away, just you, and we’ll go somewhere lonely and private.’ (NTE)

    Give. Rest.

    Minister. Recover.

    Serve. Receive.

    Deplete. Recharge.

    Extend. Replenish.

How can you withdraw for some alone time or trusted people time with Jesus?

    Bucket Reflection:

What is the current level of my energy/power/joy bucket?

What filled my bucket today? How can I do more of that?

What drained my bucket today? How can I do less of that?
