Perfect Peace

Perfect Peace

 (Isaiah 26:1-4)

QUESTION: If you could wish for anything, and you would have that wish come true, what would you wish for?

The Angels announcement: "Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth.” (Luke 2:14)

The Apostle Paul often wrote: Peace be with you; Go in Peace; Grace and Peace be with you! He didn’t say grace and power, Go in prosperity nor Popularity be with you. Grace & Peace!

What we want in life is peace...real peace…PERFECT PEACE! You can have money in the bank but no empty in your heart. You can be successful on the outside but incredibly lost on the inside. Married, but not have peace in your home.

ISAIAH 26 (context) - In a season of fear and unsettledness Isaiah prophesies a day of unbridled worship!

I love Isaiah’s promise — “You will be kept in perfect peace.”

Perfect Peace? Shalom: wholeness, completeness, the fullness of peace.

Peace with God. Peace with Others. Peace with self.

The original Hebrew text, the word Shalom appears twice: Shalom, Shalom.

A double portion…PERFECT PEACE!

Peace doesn’t mean no troubles in life. (John 16:33) - "In this world you will have trouble."

Peace isn’t found in the absence of problems. True peace is found in the presence of God!

QUESTION: Would you say that there's a war in your mind? The battle for peace begins in our minds!

Isaiah 26:3 (NLT) - "You will keep in perfect peace all whose thoughts are fixed on you”

Isaiah 26:3 (NIV) - "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast.”

Samak (fixed): To lean on completely, to fully rest oneself.

QUESTION: What's your mind fixed on? What consumes your mind? What is it focused on?

Philippians 4:8-9 (NLT) - “…Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Then the God of peace will be with you.”

John 14:27 - “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

- Notice that Jesus doesn’t say, He's giving you “A peace”, he's giving you HIS peace!

(Mark 4:35-41) 2 storms that day: One on the outside and one on the inside!

Philippians 4:6-7 - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

It’s the Perfect Peace of God, not the world’s peace. The world can’t give it, can’t take it away!

Peace is not found in the absence of problems, Peace is found in the Presence of God.

When you were a kid, what did you want most? What did you think would make you happiest?

Have you ever experienced a battle for peace in your mind?

What was that experience like?

Peace isn’t found in the absence of problems; it’s found in the presence of God.

Does that change your perception of what peace is and why it’s important? If so, how?

What are some thoughts that tend to consume your mind?

What would fixing your mind on God and His promises change for you?

What problems or struggles have made it difficult for you to find peace recently?

When facing those struggles, how can you pursue the peace that’s found in God’s presence?

PRAYER: Father, thank You that, no matter what struggles we face in this life, we can find peace in Your presence. In You, we find ever-present rest and security. Help us to remember this truth and lean on You in the days ahead, knowing You’ll give us the peace we need, in good and tough times. In Jesus ’name, amen.
